Summary
On June 15, 2026, some customers were unable to open cards due to a frontend rendering failure triggered by incomplete email data.
Customer impact
A small set of customers experienced cards failing to open.
Root cause
Some emails were stored/returned without a from_name value. In this scenario, the responsible component expected either an avatar image or a sender name to render initials, and it did not handle missing from_name safely. This caused the card UI to fail to render, preventing affected users from opening cards.
Mitigation and resolution
We reverted the implementation to the previous component, which safely handles missing names. After the change, cards opened normally again for affected users.
Prevention / next steps
Make the component resilient to missing user/sender data.
Review backend data contracts and validation to prevent persisting or returning incomplete sender fields where they are required.
Add monitoring/alerting for this specific user-facing failure mode.
